A Hardcore leveling addon for WoW Forever has one job: warn you before the pull
Forever's Hardcore realms open sometime after launch. What actually kills a leveling character, shown with real warnings from our routes, and which leveling addons say they help on Hardcore.
Blizzard’s ruleset article says Hardcore “will be available sometime after launch”, with no date yet. When a Hardcore character dies in Forever it isn’t deleted: Blizzard’s Hardcore panel at BlizzCon said it can move to the Normal, PvP or RP rules, where Classic Hardcore only allowed the first.
The leveling is the same game either way, so the addon that helps is the one that knows what’s about to go wrong. Leveling deaths come from a short list, and every item on it can be written down before you get there.
What kills a leveling character
These are warnings from the BoF Guide’s own routes, each shown on the step where it applies. The routes carry 407 written warnings like these, plus 200 elite flags.
An elite on the quest path. The data knows a creature is elite. It doesn’t know it patrols over your objective.

Redridge Mountains 36.4, 54.7
Oslow's toolbox is in a Sunken Chest on the lake bed, underwater.
An elite Lake Thresher swims a patrol over the Lost Tools. Wait for it to pass before you dive.
Opening the chest takes 5 seconds, so mind your breath.

Turn in Blackrock Blockade
The BoF Guide's beta route for Dwarf and Gnome, Redridge Mountains, level 20. See this stop on the mapTwo or three at once. A named creature that stands with friends turns one pull into three.
Morgan the Collector and Erlan Drudgemoor stand with Surena, so expect all three at once. (Northshire, around level 12)
A level spike inside a zone. Most of a zone fits your level; one corner of it doesn’t.
Moonstalker Matriarchs are level 19-20. Below 19, take only the Sires (17-18). (Darkshore, around level 18)
Escorts and group quests that look solo in the quest log.
This is a level 20 escort and very hard alone. Bring a group. (Darkshore, around level 20)
Rares that wander in. A rare elite two levels above you on a quest field.
Aean Swiftriver, a level 26 rare elite, can be up among the mounds. Keep well clear of him. (The Barrens, around level 24)
Things that aren’t fights at all. Falls, mostly.
Walk back down the stairs afterwards. Stepping off the top of the tower is a long fall. (Zephras Isle, around level 8)
What the leveling addons say they do for Hardcore
| Addon | Hardcore help in Forever, by its maker’s own pages |
|---|---|
| BoF Guide (ours) | Warnings on the step before elites, group quests, creatures well above your level and the pulls above; dangerous quests wait until you’re ready. A Hardcore mode with Hardcore-only steps comes before the realms open. |
| RestedXP | Its Forever routes mark some steps as Hardcore-only or Softcore-only. The addon carries a Survival Guide for Hardcore Classic; a Forever one isn’t announced. |
| ForeverWisp, Zygor, Guidelime, Ding! | Not described on their pages for Forever. |
| Questie | Marks quests on the map; no route, so no warnings. |

Habits no addon replaces
- Read the level before the pull. A guide flags creatures well above you; one or two levels up is still your call.
- Know your way out before you need it, whether that’s a sprint, a fear, a bubble or a potion.
- Expect respawns. Blizzard’s Oct 1 notes raised respawn rates across Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, the Wetlands, Duskwood and Thousand Needles, so a cleared camp doesn’t stay cleared.
- Leave the escort for a group unless you’ve read what it spawns.
Each zone’s leveling guide has a “What can kill you here” section with that zone’s elites, rares and the guide’s warnings, starting from the zones by level.
