Taldramir, the Whispering Wood: WoW Forever's first legendary staff, and what the game files say about its questline
Taldramir, the Whispering Wood is WoW Forever's first new legendary, a two-hand staff revealed on November 4. What Blizzard confirmed, when it may come, and the questline in the game files: Moonglade, Un'Goro and a branch of Nordrassil.

Taldramir, the Whispering Wood is WoW Forever’s first new legendary, a two-hand staff. Blizzard revealed it on its November 4 launch livestream, Forging Forever, where Wētā Workshop made a real one on camera. Blizzard hasn’t said who can use it, what it does or when it arrives. The game files show more than the reveal did: the steps of a questline with stops in Moonglade, Un’Goro Crater and Hyjal.
What Blizzard has confirmed
| Name | Taldramir, the Whispering Wood |
| Type | Two-Hand Staff, Soulbound (the tooltip on Blizzard’s art) |
| Revealed | November 4, on the Forging Forever launch stream |
| Made by | Wētā Workshop, on the stream |
| Classes, stats, effect | not announced |
| Release | not dated |

When Taldramir might come
Blizzard has said two things about timing. Its 2026-2027 roadmap lists a new legendary questline among the spring updates, next to two new raids and two new dungeons. And its September 12 panel recap said Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps “set the stage for raid encounters, new tier sets, and a legendary reward”. Both raids open on December 9, with Onyxia’s Lair, as covered in WoW Forever raids open December 9.
Neither post names the staff, so the safest reading is that the questline isn’t in the game at launch.
The questline in the game files
New Forever items are encrypted in the client, so Taldramir’s own tooltip and stats can’t be read. The questline around it is partly readable in build 1.60.1.70790. These names come straight from the files:
| In the files | What it is |
|---|---|
| 1.60 Legendary - Moonglade - Barrow Dens - Satyr - Conversation | a quest-tracking label: talking to a satyr in Moonglade’s Barrow Dens |
| 1.60 Legendary - Un’Goro Pylon Puzzle Solved | a tracking label: a puzzle at Un’Goro Crater’s pylons |
| 1.60 Legendary - Solo Encounter Completed (Tracking Quest) | three of these: fights done alone |
| Cenarion Circle (Legendary Event) | a faction with no reputation bar, likely the questline’s NPCs |
| Begin Ritual, Lunar Effusion, Umbral Suffusion | ritual spells: “The light of Elune periodically empowers anyone residing within the moonwell.” |
| (DNT) Legendary Ritual Success | the ritual’s end |
| Bough of the World Tree | an item category: one of a kind |
| Stormcharged | “Charges the branch of Nordrassil with the power of Stormwraith.” |
| Everlasting Bond | “Sharing health with Stormwraith” and “Sharing health with Sylvestris Dusksong” |
Taken together, they describe a branch of Nordrassil, the World Tree on Mount Hyjal, that is empowered in a Cenarion Circle moonwell ritual and charged by a creature called Stormwraith. Wowhead, which first datamined it, also found a solo fight against Archimonde called “Archimonde’s Fall” in an earlier beta build; that map isn’t readable in 70790. The order of the steps isn’t in the files.
Spoiler: the raid link
Sylvestris Dusksong is the fourth of Hyjal Summit’s 13 bosses in the game’s achievement records. Everlasting Bond ties Stormwraith’s health to Sylvestris Dusksong, so one step of the questline probably happens in that fight.
Who might wield it
Blizzard hasn’t named a class. In Classic, Druids, Hunters, Mages, Priests, Shamans, Warlocks and Warriors can use a staff. Wowhead’s reading of the data is a healing staff, and the Elune and Cenarion Circle theme fits Druids, but nothing in the readable files says so outright. We’ll update this page when Blizzard does.
Getting to 60 first
The questline will be endgame work, and the raids open on December 9. The BoF Guide, Bind on Forever’s free WoW Forever in-game leveling guide, takes every start from 1 to 30 with the Hardcore warnings on each card. It’s on CurseForge and Wago. The roadmap’s other dates are on What’s new.
