WoW Forever guilds: how to create one, the Guild Finder, guild banks and the Discord link
WoW Forever guilds: start one with a Guild Charter, find one in the Guild Finder, and what the game files add that Classic never had: a guild Discord link with chat both ways, a preferred guild location, guild renames and Guild Vaults.

WoW Forever guilds work the way Classic’s did. You buy a Guild Charter, collect signatures and register the guild, and the Guild Finder helps you fill it. The WoW Forever client, beta build 1.60.1.70532, also carries guild features Classic Era’s client doesn’t have: a link between guild chat and a Discord channel, a preferred location for the guild, guild renames and the strings for guild banks. Blizzard hasn’t written about most of them yet, so this is what the files show and what’s still unknown.
How to create a guild in WoW Forever
The steps are Classic’s, and the client’s charter screens are the same:
- Talk to a guild master NPC in a capital city and choose Purchase a Guild Charter. You name the guild here.
- Hand the charter to other players: select them and click Request Signature. Each one clicks Sign Charter.
- Bring the full charter back to the guild master and register it. The guild exists from then on, with you as Guild Master.
Classic asked for nine signatures. How many WoW Forever wants is set on the server, so the files can’t tell us. In the first week of the beta, signing was broken, and Blizzard’s known issues said it had “temporarily made it possible to hand-in a guild charter with no signatures”. A later fix on Oct 6 dealt with an error when joining or leaving a guild.
The WoW Forever Guild Finder
The Guild Finder is in the client. A guild posts a listing with its focus and the specializations it’s looking for, players apply, and officers accept or decline from the Guild & Communities window. Listings expire, and the game warns before that happens, so a recruiting guild has to post again from time to time. A listing that breaks Blizzard’s language policy is removed and has to be posted again.
Outside the game, Blizzard points players to the WoW Portal Room, the official World of Warcraft Discord server. Its WoW Ambassadors are experienced players who represent their own Discord communities and help you find one that fits how you play. Blizzard pitched it to WoW Forever players on October 27.
Guild banks: very likely, not announced
Blizzard has never said “guild banks” in a WoW Forever announcement, and a creator playing the beta on Oct 5 said there wasn’t one. Three things point the other way:
- Blizzard’s Oct 13 post on gold buying says an account under an economy hold has “restricted use of trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House”.
- Players’ traces in QuestieDB put a Guild Vault next to the bank in Stormwind, in Darnassus and in Ratchet.
- The WoW Forever client has guild bank messages that Classic Era’s client doesn’t, including one for Self-Found characters: “You can’t access the guild bank in self-found mode.”
Classic Era never had guild banks, so this would be new. We expect them at launch and will say so for sure once Blizzard does or we see a vault on a live server.
Link your guild to Discord
This is the biggest new guild feature in the files, and Classic Era’s client has none of it. A guild can link its guild chat to one channel of a Discord server:
- The guild master or an officer with the Link Guild Chat to Discord permission installs the WoW app on the Discord server and picks a channel in the guild settings.
- Messages go both ways. Discord posts show in game as Guild Discord, and
/discordwrites to the channel from the game. A guild can keep that chat apart from guild chat or mix the two. - Players link their own Discord account under Social in the settings and choose which character’s name Discord sees.
- The calendar can show the Discord server’s scheduled events. Groups in the Group Finder can share a Discord invite or use in-game voice chat run by Discord, which other players can join without a Discord account.
It fits what Holly Longdale said in September, that connecting communities and Discord to the game is a first step. ▶ 8:48 The client checks with the server before it shows any of it, so the files can’t tell us whether it’s on at launch.
Preferred guild location and language
The client has a Preferred Play Settings page for the guild, which only the Guild Master can change: a Preferred Online Language and a Preferred Guild Location within your region. Each player has the same pair for their whole account, Preferred Online Language and Preferred Account Location. Every change starts a cooldown counted in days, and the server sets how many.
The game uses your language setting to place you with players of your language, as Blizzard explained when it described WoW Forever’s realms and regions. A guild location points the same way: keeping a guild together on the same servers. Blizzard has said that layering tries to put you with your guild and friends.
Renaming a guild
The Guild Master can rename the guild from the client, paid from guild bank funds. There’s a short window to undo it for a refund, then a waiting period before the next rename. The new name has to be free. Blizzard hasn’t named a price.
Before launch
- Names come first: early name reservation opens October 27 at 1:00 p.m. PDT (3:00 p.m. CDT, 18:00 CET), up to three characters across all rulesets.
- The launch checklist has the rest of the week.
- Leveling as a guild? The BoF Guide, Bind on Forever’s free WoW Forever in-game leveling guide, can follow another race’s route, so friends from different starts can level together. It’s free to level 30 on CurseForge and Wago, and the BoF Guide page has the rest.
Questions
How do you create a guild in WoW Forever?
Buy a Guild Charter from a guild master NPC in a capital city, ask other players to sign it, and hand it back in to register the guild. The WoW Forever beta client has the same charter screens as Classic. Early in the beta, Blizzard briefly let charters be handed in with no signatures while signing was broken.
Does WoW Forever have a Guild Finder?
Yes. The WoW Forever client has the Guild Finder: guilds post a listing with their focus and the specializations they want, players apply, and a posting expires after a while. Beta build 1.60.1.70532.
Does WoW Forever have guild banks?
Very likely, though Blizzard hasn't announced them. Its Oct 13 post on gold buying names guild banks among the things an economy hold restricts, and players' traces in QuestieDB place Guild Vaults beside the banks of Stormwind, Darnassus and Ratchet. A creator found none in the beta on Oct 5.
Can you link a WoW Forever guild to Discord?
The WoW Forever client can: a guild links its chat to one channel of a Discord server, messages pass both ways, and /discord talks to it from the game. It's switched on by the server, and Blizzard hasn't said whether it's on at launch.
Can you rename a guild in WoW Forever?
The WoW Forever client has a guild rename for the guild master, paid from guild bank funds, with a refund window and a waiting period before the next rename. Blizzard hasn't announced it or its price.
