What the developers said
Blizzard's developers on its podcast, panels and streams, newest first. Each line sums up what they said at that moment, and the badge says how it holds up against the game files.
Not in the files Excavation Site (Wetlands) uses the unfinished Dwarven area that runs up toward Dun Morogh, with Titan ruins, an old lagoon and tall grass where raptors ambush groups.
The files The Excavation Site map exists in the client; the description of its spaces isn't checkable from the tables.
World of Warcraft, Oct 8 at 24:21
Partly Wetlands got all-new content: over 25 new quests and new leveling paths.
The files New Wetlands subzones: Dragonmaw Retreat (17716), The Drunken Dwarf (17738), Excavation Site: Wetlands (17732). The quest count is not in client data.
World of Warcraft, Sep 15 at 13:25
Not in the files New three-stop ship route: Menethil Harbor to Southshore to Auberdine.
The files No new signposts at Menethil/Southshore/Auberdine for this route. Transports are not in the archived tables.
World of Warcraft, Sep 15 at 10:13
Not in the files From the Wetlands you can see the backs of Dun Morogh's mountains, and from Menethil Harbor across Baradin Bay you can see Dalaran's violet citadel in the Alterac Mountains.
The files Sightlines are not checkable.

Changed since New dungeon: Titan dig site in the Wetlands above Whelgar's Excavation (Titan constructs, strange mist); levels 24-29.
The files Announced at 24-29 (official table post 30052350). Build 70009 retuned Group Finder 1981 from 22-35 to 26-33. Dungeon ContentTuning 6874 = 26, and the Oct 1 dev notes list it as (26-31). Location confirmed: subzone 17732 'Excavation Site: Wetlands' in Wetlands. Instance areas: Lost Marsh, Stalker's Thicket, Site of the Guardian, Lost Dig Site. Bosses: Saltspine, Shadetooth, Highland Horror (encounter 3644), Relic Guardian. 'Strange mist' is unverifiable.

Partly A Wetlands ring quest needs a level-30 elite killed. Two can be up at once and they respawn about every 15 minutes. Level-20 Alliance raids formed to kill it, and Horde players kited it into them.
The files The elite's drop 'Rotheap Innards' (279537, starts a quest) exists in the hotfix cache. Mob level, count and respawn are server-side.
Xaryu, Sep 23 at 14:33
Partly The Wetlands elite drops Rot Heap Innards ('you feel great discomfort simply looking at this'). Turned in to a Wetlands quest NPC, it gives a ring with 7 Stamina and 4 spell damage. The quest text hints at a dark presence spreading malevolence beneath the Wetlands.
The files 'Rotheap Innards' (279537) is in the hotfix cache. A matching ring candidate is Malignant Root 282283 (ring, +7 Sta, +4 Spell Power, +8 AP), but the quest link is server-side.
Xaryu, Sep 23 at 22:21
Not in the files Tags are first-come: one Alliance player tagged the Wetlands quest elite ahead of Xaryu's raid, so the whole raid got no credit and had to wait for the respawn.
The files Tagging is server-side.
Xaryu, Sep 23 at 16:22
Not in the files Excavation Site approach: the meeting stone is beside the Wetlands spider cave (a popular Large Venom Sac farm). The path up has level 27-28 spiders even though surrounding Wetlands mobs are 21-24, and neutral turtles sit before the portal. A level 29 elite spider, Highland Lurker, is just outside the dungeon.
The files Mob levels and names (Highland Lurker) are server-side, and 'Highland Lurker' is not in client tables. New Wetlands subzones exist (Excavation Site: Wetlands 17732, The Drunken Dwarf 17738, Dragonmaw Retreat 17716).
720 Zone, Sep 27 at 0:47
Not in the files New Wetlands additions near the Arathi Highlands entrance: a giant non-interactable golem named 'Motor', a new elite 'Night-Veiled Rot Heap' and an aggressive griffon 'Bassbeak'. The area beyond is packed with elites.
The files Creature names and spawns are server-side; none appear in client data.
Farmerfarms, Sep 19 at 2:38
Not in the files Excavation Site feels like part of the outdoor Wetlands (you can see outside). It has a massive pit in the middle full of mobs, and tortoises sit up by the entrance.
The files Visual and layout impressions. The map has subzones Lost Marsh (16877), Stalker's Thicket (16878), Site of the Guardian (16879) and Lost Dig Site (16880). An exterior area 17732 'Excavation Site: Wetlands' sits in Wetlands (parent 11).
Xaryu, Oct 3 at 1:03
Not in the files The Wetlands elite's ring-quest drop can be looted by everyone, even a whole raid, for turn-in to the NPC. Esfand's ring choice had Stamina and 8 attack power.
The files No Wetlands ring quest item could be identified; loot rules are server-side.

In Blizzard's notes
- No claim to check
Excavation Site: Wetlands
The files A dungeon heading for the quest fix below it.
- Partly
New Dungeon - Excavation Site: Wetlands (26-31).
The files The dungeon is in the files (map 2998, dungeon 3274) with content tuning 6874 at level 26 and a group finder entry (1981) for levels 26 to 33, not 26 to 31. It was already in the client before 70170 (its group finder levels changed in 70009), so the opening itself was server-side.
- Not in the files
Increased the respawn rate across many different creatures and objects in Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Duskwood, and Thousand Needles.
Developers' note: Redridge Mountains and Stonetalon Mountains were adjusted in a previous build. Please continue to submit any areas where you have difficulty completing quests, and we will continue to make adjustments.
The files Respawn rates are server-side.
