What the developers said
Blizzard's developers on its podcast, panels and streams, newest first. Each line sums up what they said at that moment, and the badge says how it holds up against the game files.
Matches the files The Windshapers, the shamanistic spiritual leaders of Zephras Isle, are a playable Skyborne faction that sides with the Horde.
The files Faction 2778 'Windshapers': 'shamanistic spiritual leaders of the Skyborne people on Zephras Isle'. ChrRaces 96 Windshaper Skyborne is Horde and can be Shaman.
World of Warcraft, Sep 15 at 21:48
Matches the files The antagonists of Zephras Isle are a cult (caption: 'Alyth') devoted to Al'Akir the Windlord, who used the crisis to seize a large part of the island.
The files Faction 2749 'Al'Aketh'. Spell 1254832: 'The Mark of Akir will let the members of The Al'Aketh know that you are friendly'. Zephras subzone 'Shrine of Akir', transmog 'Al'Aketh Zealot's Garb', 'Zephras Cult Plans Conversation' (1297729). How much of the island they seized is unverifiable.
World of Warcraft, Sep 15 at 23:11
Not in the files Zephras Isle is self-contained and not a major world fixture; you won't go there weekly to raid or farm materials.
The files Design intent.
World of Warcraft, Sep 15 at 23:46
Not in the files The final in-game map of Zephras Isle is based on an original sketch by Chris Metzen.
The files Art history. Zephras Isle exists (Map 2991, UiMap 2521).
World of Warcraft, Sep 15 at 24:24
Matches the files Zephras Isle is the starting zone of the new Skyborne race.
The files Map 2991 'Zephras Isle' (LoadingScreen 687) is the starting zone for ChrRaces 95/96.
World of Warcraft, Sep 14 at 4:51
Matches the files Zephras Isle: Highborne exiles pacted with air elementals and built a civilization in Skywall; the air spirits have vanished and the Skyborne are divided.
The files Race lore 95: 'descendants of the ancient Highborne scholars of Eldre'Thalas. When the wind spirits disappeared from Zephras Isle...'. Faction 2779: 'past 10,000 years in the realm of Skywall'. 'Skywall' subzone. The Windshapers/High Order split is shown by ChrRaces 95/96.

What creators found, checked
From beta videos by bigger WoW creators. Each line sums up what the creator said at that moment of the video, and the badge says how it holds up against the game files.
Not in the files Xaryu's Prot Warrior reached level 20 doing only the Zephras Isle starting zone, then Hall of Thanes, Deadmines and Ruins of Lordaeron back to back. That took about 12 hours played and left him in near-full blues.
The files Play-time anecdote.

Not in the files Zephras Isle (Skyborne starting zone) does not appear on the Azeroth world map. TheoryWise says once you leave there is little reason to return.
The files Zephras Isle is its own map (2991). Its UiMap 2521 is parented directly to Azeroth (947), not to a continent; whether it's drawn on the Azeroth map isn't readable.
TheoryWise, Sep 29 at 17:19
Not in the files Zephras Isle has about four main quest hubs. Its quests are densely chained, each leading straight into the next, and TheoryWise felt the zone played like a Cataclysm zone rather than a Classic one.
The files Quest hub structure is server-side.
TheoryWise, Sep 29 at 13:17
Not in the files Druid idol reward bug: the idol was originally a Horde-only Zephras Isle quest reward. After complaints Blizzard moved it to the Aquatic Form quest. Druids who finished Aquatic Form before the move but never did the Zephras quest can no longer get it, which matters for the dueling tournament. Chat suggested putting it on the Booty Bay 'Lost and Found' vendor.
The files Quest-reward moves are server-side. The idol that matches the batch note ('shapeshift mana cost -40') is Idol of Shifting Tides, item 263411 (ilvl 16; spell 1270470 'Reduces the mana cost of shapeshifting spells by 40'). No 'Windcharged Leaf' exists in the client. No Booty Bay 'Lost and Found' vendor string was found.
