WoW Forever's last racial changes before launch: Human, Dwarf, Tauren, Orc, Troll, Undead and Skyborne

Blizzard's final racial pass: Human Ruthless drops to 1% crit, Dwarf trades Earth Fury for 1% hit, Orc gets Command back, Troll Berserking lasts 15 sec, Tauren run faster on foot, and Skyborne actives pay off at ley lines.

A row of eight old keepsakes on a stone ledge, from a dwarven hammer head to a small horn cup, for WoW Forever's final racial changes

Blizzard made its final pass on racials before the November 4 launch. Seven races change: Human, Dwarf, Tauren, Orc, Troll, Undead and both Skyborne. Blizzard added the Orc, Troll and Undead lines to its notes on October 27, a day after the rest. Some racials Forever had made generic go back to class or role ones, and the strongest passives are toned down. Blizzard says it put each race’s identity first, so some races will be a bit better at some roles than others.

The weapon racials stay gone, though. Sword, Axe and Mace Specialization don’t come back, because Blizzard doesn’t want dungeon and raid loot judged by which weapon your race prefers.

Every change

Race Racial Before After
Human Ruthless 2% crit chance 1% crit chance
Human The Human Spirit 5% Spirit 10% Spirit
Dwarf Earth Fury 2% crit damage and healing removed
Dwarf Artisan’s Precision new: 1% hit with spells and attacks

Tauren Endurance 5% Health and 2% crit damage and healing 5% Health only
Orc Savage 1% crit chance removed
Orc Command back: 5% more Warlock and Hunter pet damage
Orc Blood Fury 3-minute cooldown 2-minute cooldown
Troll Berserking lasts 10 sec lasts 15 sec
Undead Touch of the Grave can proc once every 25 sec once every 15 sec
Skyborne Wind Blessed 3% haste 2% haste
High Order Skyborne Read Leyline 100% Health and Mana regeneration 50% for 15 sec, 100% while Attuned
Windshaper Skyborne Skysight 10% movement speed, mounted too 15% for 15 sec, 30% while Charged

The “before” column is what the beta’s last build, 1.60.1.70532, shows. The “after” column is from Blizzard’s notes. The launch client, build 1.60.1.70634, out with name reservation on October 27, still has the old values, and so does the data the server sent it, so these changes should switch on at launch. The race pages show them as “Coming at launch” until then. Update, Oct 29: Blood Fury’s 2-minute cooldown is live; the server data of Oct 28 has it. The other changes aren’t there yet. What else the servers changed that day: the Hunter nerf and Ice Lance cooldown.

The Skyborne actives, reworked

Both Skyborne actives now have a short version you can use anywhere and a long one you earn at a special spot:

  • Read Leyline gives 50% more Health and Mana regeneration for 15 seconds. Use it at a ley line and you also get Attuned for an hour, which raises it to 100%. It can’t be used while Innervate is on you.
  • Skysight gives 15% movement speed for 15 seconds. Use it at an elemental convergence and you also get Charged for an hour, which raises it to 30%.

Attuned and Charged both last through death, but entering a raid removes them.

How the Skyborne changed over the whole beta, build by build: every WoW Forever Skyborne racial change.

What it means for Hardcore

The life-saving racials are untouched: Stoneform, Will of the Forsaken, Will to Survive, Escape Artist, Shadowmeld and War Stomp all stay as they were. Two changes help a Hardcore character run:

  • Tauren reach up to 60% movement speed on foot with Plainsrunning, if you keep moving and don’t take damage.
  • Windshaper Skyborne get 30% movement speed for an hour while Charged.

Undead also get a little more out of Touch of the Grave: it can drain Health back every 15 seconds instead of every 25.

Our pick for Hardcore stays the same: the best race for Hardcore. Every racial against Classic is in every racial Forever changed, and each race’s full list is on the races page.

Questions

What racials changed in WoW Forever on October 26?

Human Ruthless went to 1% crit (was 2%) and The Human Spirit to 10% Spirit (was 5%). Dwarf lost Earth Fury and gained Artisan's Precision, 1% hit. Orc lost Savage and got Command back, 5% Warlock and Hunter pet damage, and Blood Fury's cooldown dropped to 2 minutes. Troll Berserking lasts 15 seconds (was 10), and Undead Touch of the Grave procs every 15 seconds at most (was 25). Tauren Plainsrunning doubled to 60% but no longer works mounted, and Endurance is 5% Health only. Skyborne haste went to 2%, and Read Leyline and Skysight were reworked.

Is Orc still good in WoW Forever after the racial changes?

For Warlocks and Hunters, yes: Command is back, 5% more pet damage. Orcs of other classes lose Savage's 1% crit and keep Hardiness, Shatter Curse and Blood Fury, now on a 2-minute cooldown.

Do weapon specialization racials come back in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard says weapon racials like Sword and Axe Specialization stay gone, so that dungeon and raid loot isn't judged by which race needs which weapon.
