The Great Outdoors in WoW Forever: where each start's camping quest is, and what Boosted Rest really does
The Great Outdoors is WoW Forever's level 6 camping quest: sit by the Adventurer's campfire with /sit until Boosted Rest shows. Each start has its own giver, you can only do one, and it opens the Camping 101 quests.

The Great Outdoors is WoW Forever’s camping quest, and it takes about a minute. At level 4 or higher you meet an Adventurer outside your first town. Sit by their campfire with /sit, wait until the Boosted Rest buff appears, and hand it in. The game has seven copies of the quest, one per start, which is why searching it turns up seven quest pages with the same name.
Where The Great Outdoors starts, for every race
Every version is level 6 and needs level 4. The giver is an Adventurer camped by a Basic Campfire, and most starts send you there with a short quest called The Adventurer.
| Start | Adventurer | Where | Quest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Sam Sarsaparilla | Elwynn Forest, Goldshire (44.9, 63.4) | 95998 |
| Dwarf, Gnome | Eric Brighthammer | Dun Morogh, Kharanos (46.7, 53.9) | 96608 |
| Night Elf | Lyreena Duskblade | Teldrassil, Dolanaar (57.6, 56.6) | 96606 |
| Skyborne | Raan Wildwind | Zephras Isle, Shen’dar Village, by the inn (41.7, 44.8) | 96101 |
| Orc, Troll | Brakk | Durotar, just south of Razor Hill (52.0, 47.3) | 96604 |
| Tauren | Kaga Wildhoof | Mulgore, on the road down to Bloodhoof Village (46.2, 67.3) | 96605 |
| Undead | Eleanor Shackleton | Tirisfal Glades, by Brill (57.3, 55.5) | 96607 |
The seven quests shut each other out in the quest data: once one is done, the rest are gone for that character, even if you level through another start.
How to complete The Great Outdoors
- Talk to the Adventurer and take the quest.
- Stand next to their campfire and type
/sitin chat. - Stay seated. After about a minute, Boosted Rest shows in your buffs and the quest completes.
- Stand up and hand it in to the same Adventurer.
Moving, jumping or getting pulled into a fight stands you up, so clear any wandering mob before you sit. If the minute passes and the quest hasn’t updated, abandon it, take it again from the Adventurer and sit back down: that clears it. The Night Elf version’s objective in the game doesn’t mention /sit, but it’s the same quest, so you still have to sit.
What Boosted Rest really does
The name sounds like an XP bonus. It isn’t one. In build 70790 the buff Boosted Rest reads: “You cannot gain more rested experience from a Camp Tent for 1 hour.” It’s the lockout a camp puts on you after it has topped up your rested XP.
The top-up comes from the Camp Tent, whose tooltip says it raises rested experience “to 5% of a level”, with “no effect if Rested experience already exceeds that value”. The quest teaches you that loop: a camp refills a small amount of rested XP once an hour, wherever you stop. At level 6 that’s a few kills’ worth. Later, when a level takes an hour or more, a free 5% at every stop adds up.
Leatherworkers make the Camp Tent themselves from skill 1. Everyone else can sit at another player’s camp, since the tent works for anyone sitting nearby.
What comes after: Camping 101
Handing in The Great Outdoors opens the Camping 101 quests. The first is Camping 101: Cooking, which sends you to your town’s cook to learn Cooking and the Basic Campfire. The others match the professions you have, such as Camping 101: Alchemy or Camping 101: Blacksmithing. Each one points you to the person who teaches your profession’s first camp feature, once your skill reaches 20.
A Basic Campfire takes a Simple Wood, with Flint and Tinder in your bags. Trade goods vendors sell both; in Thelsamar it’s Yanni Stoutheart. The fire holds three camp features, and sitting by it for a minute gives each feature’s buff for an hour. The camp builder has the full list by profession. Until Nov 12, the Pouch of Violet Dust Twitch drop makes those buffs last 2 hours.
The Great Outdoors in the BoF Guide
The BoF Guide, Bind on Forever’s free WoW Forever in-game leveling guide, puts The Great Outdoors on every start’s road at the first town, with the sit-and-wait step and the abandon fix on the card. It’s on CurseForge and Wago, free from 1 to 30. The WoW Forever leveling guide shows each start’s road around it, and the next steps from every starting zone are in the first hour in every starting zone.
Questions
How do you complete The Great Outdoors in WoW Forever?
Stand next to the Adventurer's Basic Campfire, type /sit in chat and stay seated for about a minute. When the Boosted Rest buff appears, the quest is done; stand up and hand it in to the same Adventurer.
The Great Outdoors won't complete in WoW Forever. What do I do?
If you sat by the fire and the quest didn't update, abandon it, take it again from the Adventurer and sit back down. That clears it. Boosted Rest lasts an hour, so check it isn't already on you from a Camp Tent.
Where is The Great Outdoors quest in WoW Forever?
Each start has its own Adventurer: Sam Sarsaparilla in Goldshire, Eric Brighthammer in Kharanos, Lyreena Duskblade by Dolanaar, Raan Wildwind in Shen'dar Village, Brakk by Razor Hill, Kaga Wildhoof on the road to Bloodhoof Village and Eleanor Shackleton by Brill. All seven are level 6 and need level 4.
What does Boosted Rest do in WoW Forever?
Boosted Rest is a lockout. Its text in build 70790 reads: you cannot gain more rested experience from a Camp Tent for 1 hour. You get it right after a camp tops up your rested XP.
Can you do The Great Outdoors more than once in WoW Forever?
No. The seven versions shut each other out, so one character does one of them. Taking it in a second starting zone isn't possible once you've done it in the first.
